Rotary Club of Patong
Beach Tsunami Relief Trip Report
Date of Trip: 16-17 July 2005
Trip location: Kuraburi Pier Boat Repair Project, Kuraburi
Name of Rotarian: Bradley Kenny
The purpose of this Tsunami Relief trip was to check up on all Rotary Club of Patong Beach projects in the Kuraburi area.
To date The Rotary Club of Patong Beach with our sponsors have completed the repair of 52 boats with 2 more under repair and 5 more in line. This was accomplished through 2 phases each budgeted at Baht 500,000. For the final payment of Phase 2, we owe Baht 200,000, which needs to be transferred as soon as possible.
I talked with Dr. Verachai and asked him on the status of additional longtail boats in the Kuraburi area that still needed repair. He stated they had been approached by and/or knew of 50 additional boats that would meet our repair criteria in the area.
As I stood talking on the phone, the 5 workers proudly pointed to the sea and I noticed a passing bright red longtail boat with the bow stenciled ̉Under the Patronage of The Rotary Club of Patong BeachÓ and the very broad smile and waving arms of the boat driver, which made me feel very proud indeed as all involved in this project should.
I thereby will recommend to the Rotary Club of Patong Beach
Board of Directors that we start phase 3 of this very successful project with
an additional Baht 500,000.
Approved by the Board on July 19, 2005
