Details and Background:
On May 2005 the Rotary Club of Andaman found in a survey of the Slum area in Phuket Town at Sapan Hin that some villagers are living in the mangroves entering Phuket island at the Sapan Hin area. Going there by long tail boat they found 6 families living there as squatters on land controlled by the Forestry Department. They had a little income from fishing before the Tsunami and lost a lot of their equipment and boats by the Tsunami. The help received was not sufficient for recovering the items lost and get back on their feed, therefore the families where living from the funds received and are nearly out of money.
Therefore the Rotary Club of Andaman Club by its President for 2005-2006 P. Apinant Supasuwan initiated a project to get the family back on their feed by helping them to buy all equipment necessary to start a shellfish and sea mussel farming business for the families and help them over the time period it will take to be able to make the first sales from it (whereas another member of the Andaman Club being a whole sale owner for seafood agreed to purchase all of their products). All items to be purchased can be moved, if in case the families have to relocate and all items will be paid directly by the Rotary Club of Andaman to any suppliers.
