The August dinner out is actually a lunch out. The Boathouse in Kata has a special during the green season of a great 3 course lunch with free flow good grape nectars for a very special price of 1000THB / person. It is only available on Fridays though so we have shifted this month. We don't plan to make this a regular feature, or price, but thought we should take advantage of this opportunity while we can. We have to confirm numbers early for this event, one week in advance. So please make sure you register early! |

We need volunteers to man a booth at this Living In Phuket event on Saturday December 1st. Come for an hour or two and help us let people know more about our club. This is a great opportunity to recruit members so your participation is greatly needed. Now in its 3rd year (and 20th for its Bangkok sister organisation), “Living in Phuket” is an annual event set up to help Phuket’s many expats and their families connect with the services that will make their life on the island easier. This event attracts many major organizations and groups from Phuket’s community to one location, making it that much easier to find the right support without having to run around town collecting information. |

Cobalt? Congo- the new Saudi Arabia?
Cobalt is a rare metal needed to stabilise lithium Ion batteries- All your phones, laptops etc use cobalt. As the world now turns to electric vehicles at an unprecendented rate and also to green power generation (to be stored in Batteries) the amount of cobalt needed is going to explode. Today 70% of the worlds cobalt comes from The Democratic republic of Congo. This is often an unethical and potentially unstable supply. And even Congo does not have enough. Most cobalt mines and processing is are already owned and controlled by China. If big non-Chinese companies like Apple/Samsung/Volswagen/Toyota cannot get enough Cobalt there is a good chance will become extinct. People are already fighting and dying for cobalt. What will happen over the next 10 years?
Colin Mackay is a Phuket based writer and investor who is also involved with cobalt exploration. Come and hear this fascinating cobalt story that will play out infront of our eyes over the next decade.
