District Governor Sakon Uengsroithong meets with the Board prior to the meeting

The meeting was the official visit of Rotary District Governor Sakon to our club.  He met with the   President and Secretary in the afternoon and then again with the entire board of the club before the   general meeting.  The committee presented updates on each of their areas.

P Jonathan opened the meeting, and the SAA for the night was PP Sam who also served as the translator for the evening.

After another nice meal from the hotel, the official meeting was opened, and our guests were introduced: DG Sakon Uengsroithong, ADG Monsiri Na Nakorn, PP Suchana Chaloemtoem, Dieter, Claudia

There were updates provided by the various committees.

PP Sam – Membership – He advised that the membership goal of three new members was on track   with one new member already achieved.

PP Richard – The next step in the Helmets for Kids program will be a fundraiser at Home restaurant on   14 September with local artists decorating helmets which will then be auctioned to benefit the program.

PE Johan – The Rotary Larry Amsden memorial Save a Child swim program has just completed, and   93 children are now water safe and have the skills to protect themselves from drowning.
The beach cleanup with the children will happen on Saturday, and the celebration and presentation of   certificates to the children will occur on Monday.

PP David – The state of the treasury is sound, and we just paid a donation to the joint Phuket Rotary   clubs' annual contribution of plates to one of the temples for the vegetarian festival.

PP Sam – Foundation – Advised that PP Arnaud is the first person in Thailand to achieve the Arch   Klumpf Society level two for donations to the Rotary Foundation.  All members and encouraged to donate   to Every Rotarian Every Year.

DG Sakon addressed the club and reviewed that Rotary encourages service in 6 areas of focus.
• Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
• Disease prevention and treatment
• Water and sanitation
• Maternal and child health
• Basic education and literacy
• Economic and community development
He went on to explain that We as Rotarians take care of people from birth to death.
The DG mentioned that the signature projects of RCoPB are the Scholarship Program, the Larry Amsden   memorial Save a Child Swim Safety program and the Gary Eidsvik-Moody memorial Helmets for Kids   Program.

He compared this to the Rotary International Signature program, which is polio eradication.
Rotary has focused on polio eradication.  Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 30   years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by   more than 99.9 percent.
It’s crucial to eliminate polio from the last three countries where it remains endemic and to keep other   countries polio-free.  This year Nigeria is polio-free, and if it remains so through next year we will be   down to only two countries where polio is endemic, Pakistan and Afganistan.
If all eradication efforts stopped today, within ten years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children   each year.  We are very close to complete this vital goal, and donations toward polio eradication are still   needed to reach the goal.

PP Arnaud highlights the importance of donations as he was the first to become an Arch Klumpf Society   member in Thailand and now is the first to achieve the Second level of AKS in Thailand.
The DG extended his thanks to PP Arnaud and presented two items of recognition:  Rotary Theme pins   for the past 30 years in a beautiful frame and an AKS coin from the district where Arch Klumpf was a   member.

He extended his thanks to all members of RCoPB for the service we conduct and his warm welcome to   our club.

There was Q&A, and some of the questions were:
Please tell us about some exemplary projects from other clubs in the district.
 Projects discussed were:
  • Pra Pathom Jai Dee club’s project providing artificial legs
  • The Lake of love project for flood control by RIPP Bichai Rattakul
How many clubs and members are in District 3330?
  • 102 clubs
  • 2327 members
The meeting closed with a toast and gong from P Jonathan.

Magic potion for membership growth?

By Nancy Leonhardt, 2018-19 membership chair for District 6150, Arkansas, USA

When it comes to membership growth, there are no magic potions. Our district was blessed to add more than 65 new members last year, one of only four districts in our zone to have any increase. But I can’t point to just one thing we did that achieved those results. Instead, planning, goal-setting, follow-thru, and hard work on the part of many committed individuals were instrumental in the success we achieved.

My committee and I emphasized the importance of membership growth and engagement at every district event last year. In addition, our membership committee undertook the following efforts:

  • Chartering a new club for the first time in the last 10 years. The Rotary Club of Little Rock Afterhours meets at 5:30 p.m. on the first Mondays of each month, allowing members to attend a meeting on their way home from work. Additionally, members meet a second time during the month for a social, service project, or committee meeting. Of the charter members, 31 are new Rotarians and 10 are former Rotarians, 55 percent are female, and 53 percent are under 40.
  • Quickly and consistently acting on new Membership Leads. I reached out to each lead within hours of receipt. I followed up with clubs to check the status of the leads that were forwarded to them to keep that dialogue always going.
  • Encouraging clubs to set membership goals in Rotary Club Central and regularly reminding members of the goal.

Six of our clubs worked particularly hard to increase their membership: Helena, Jacksonville, Jonesboro, Searcy, Sherwood, and Stuttgart. Jonesboro’s membership chair, Brian Rega, is the club president this year. He had a club competition (a horse race) to encourage growth.

Stuttgart’s membership chair, David Leech, an assistant governor, set a goal of 100 members by the end of the year and constantly reminded the club of that goal. Both Brian and David were members of my team. The other four clubs had presidents who “got” the membership message and encouraged the club on a regular basis.

So, in conclusion, the simplest message to clubs is this: Set a goal, share the goal, keep the club updated, offer encouragement along the way, and celebrate at the end.

Bookseller conducting a market survey asked a woman:

“Which book has helped you most in your life?”

The woman replied, “My husband’s check book!!”

A prospective husband in a book store:

“Do you have a book called

‘Husband – the Master of the House?’”

Sales girl: “Sir, fiction and comics are on the 1st floor!”

******
Someone asked an old man:

“Even after 70 years, you still call your wife – darling, honey, luv.

What’s the secret?"

Old man: “I forgot her name and I’m afraid to ask her.”

******
Pharmacist to customer:

“Sir, please understand, to buy an anti-depression pill

you need a proper prescription ...

Simply showing a marriage certificate and wife’s picture is not enough!”

A man was granted two wishes by God.

He asked for the best drink & the best woman ever.

There are 3 kinds of men in this world.

Some remain single and make wonders happen.

Some have girlfriends and see wonders happen.

The rest get married and wonder what happened!

******
Wives are magicians.

They can change anything into an argument.

******
Why do women live a Better, Longer & Peaceful Life, compared to men?

A very INTELLIGENT student replied:

"Because Women don't have a wife!"

******
COOL MESSAGE BY A WIFE: Dear Mother-in-law,

Don’t teach me how to handle my children.

I am living with one of yours and he needs a lot of improvement!?

******
When a married man says, I WILL THINK ABOUT IT -

what he really means is that he doesn't know his wife's opinion yet.

******
A lady says to her doctor:

“My husband has a habit of talking in his sleep!

What should I give him to cure it?"

The doctor replies:

"Give him an opportunity to speak when he's awake! "
