I thought members may be interested in our Bangkok Photographers Walk on Sunday 20th October.

We explored Wat Dan, a large temple complex which adjoins the Chao Praya River, &  then moved on to the Phrapradaeng Home for Persons with Disabilities.

We arrived at the “Phrapadaeng Home for Persons with Disabilities” at 10:30 am in time for a tour of the facility. There are 500 male residents in this huge complex, all adults over 18, who are either mentally or physically disabled, most of whom will live here their entire life.

It is a clean well-organised facility which is accomplished with minimal staff.
In one men’s unit,2 staff members care for 89 men, some of whom are totally bedridden   and must be hand-fed their meals.

It is heartwarming to see the residents and staff helping each other with the daily needs   of those who can not care for themselves. The “Prapadaeng Home” provides the   essentials of food, shelter, clothing, medical treatment, physical therapy, occupational   therapy as well as social welfare and many other services for the residents.

It was agreed that the “Bangkok Photographers Group” sponsor lunch for the 500   residents and 30 staff. Our sponsorship included a simple lunch of Thai noodles for all the   residents and all the members of BPG who attended.

Before lunch, all the photographers (in small groups) were given a tour of the entire   facility including a handicraft workshop where they make items for sale and the kitchen   where meals for over 500 are prepared three times a day.

We got to meet residents as well as the staff who are very friendly and who enjoy   visitors. In total, it was a heartwarming experience.

BPG asked all members donate 300 baht towards the lunch. But the home needs many   other things including 400 pampers each and every day so if you wish, you may also   donate pampers as well as rice which they consume in large quantities every day.       The additional funds we have raised will go to buy those much needed things.

The group contributed 90,000 baht

I was emotional as I gave out 50 baht - pocket money to some of the residents,   particularly those who are bed-ridden.
There were endless smiles from the residents & visitors.

Nid is beaming, as I grab a shot of her with Miss Thailand 2018, she is a wee bit taller than Nid -   LOL.  (She is the daughter of one of our organising members)

A most gratifying & enjoyable time at the special home.
